She recently starred in the title role of Handel’s Alcina. Other notable roles include Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi in Lucca, Italy (under the direction of esteemed bass Peter Volpe), and a Typist in the world premiere of Mason Bates’ The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, a co-production with the Metropolitan Opera. She appeared as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Mass in C at Indiana University and Haydn’s Nelson Mass with the Bloomington Chamber Singers. Her opera chorus credits at IU Opera Theater include Ainadamar, Roméo et Juliette, Sweeney Todd, and Carmen; she also performed in the choruses of La Bohème, La Traviata, The Elixir of Love, Hamlet, Pirates of Penzance, and HMS Pinafore with Opera Birmingham.
Macey was recognized for her artistry with first prize in the Indiana National Society of Arts and Letters competition in classical voice in 2024 and was a finalist for the Georgina Joshi Fellowship in the same year. She was also awarded the Joshi International Fellowship in 2023. Passionate about new music and interdisciplinary collaboration, she earned third place in the 2025 Sparks & Wiry Cries Indiana SongSlam Composition competition, co-composing a winning piece with an organist collaborator. She wrote both the vocal line and poetry in Elvish, inspired by her love for the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Macey began her operatic career at 17 with the Opera Birmingham Chorus, where she sang for over seven years. She holds both a Master of Music and a Performance Diploma from Indiana University and is known for her expressive artistry, commanding stage presence, and versatility across a wide range of styles—equally at home in both comedic and dramatic roles.
In addition to performing, Macey enjoys working in collaborative music settings, particularly in church music and chamber works. She finds artistic fulfillment in exploring new compositions and bridging classical traditions with innovative projects. She is also passionate about mentoring young singers and engaging audiences through storytelling in music.
Macey is thrilled to be relocating to Chicago in fall 2025 to embrace fresh artistic opportunities.
